Sinn Féin Determined to Protect Community jobs
Sinn Féin MLA Raymond McCartney has stated that Sinn Fein is determined to ensure that the services under threat by cuts by DSD Minister Margaret Richie are maintained.
Mr McCartney stated,
"Over the past week it has emerged that many community projects are under threat after it was announced that their funding will run out in August. Amongst the hardest hit areas will be those providing services to the very young and women. These range from groups providing services to young people such as Club Na Óg to Good Morning North West providing services to the elderly.
"Due to dithering on behalf on the Minister for Social Development Margaret Ritchie many community based projects are now under threat. Although the primary responsibility lies with the Department of Social development under the Neighbourhood Renewal Scheme other Departments also will have to fulfil their commitments and the Minister needs to press through the Executive to all Ministers the importance of maintaining these jobs.
"Sinn Féin has met with many of the affected groups to discuss the situation and as a result has tabled emergency motions to the Minister to which we expect answers in the coming days."
