Ruane thanks School Governors
Sinn Féin Education Minister, Caitríona Ruane, today thanked school governors for their contribution to the education sector.
Speaking at the Annual School Governors' Conference held in Enniskillen, the Minister said:
"It is worth noting there are over 10,000 governors looking after over 1,200 schools across the north of Ireland, making it the largest voluntary workforce in the public sector.
"The work of governors is invaluable to both schools and the local community. I would personally like to thank each and every one for their commitment and dedication to delivering a quality education to all our children.
"This is an exciting time to be involved in education as major reforms are brought forward. These include proposals on new arrangements on transfer from primary to post primary, the implementation of the literacy and numeracy strategy and the revised curriculum. Good governance is at the core of developing and delivering this change and ensuring all children and young people are able to fulfil their potential.
"Conferences such as these are an opportunity to work together exchanging ideas and building on the good work that has already been done. They are also a chance to give our school governors the recognition they deserve." ENDS
