Sinn Féin Health and Disabilities Spokesperson Michelle O'Neill has sad that she has deep concerns that Health Minister Michael McGimpsey is only paying lip service to the recommendations put forward on suicide prevention.
Ms O'Neill stated,
"A committee convened to look at the problem of suicide came up with 26 recommendations to help combat the problem. However I am concerned that the Minister Michael McGimpsey is only paying lip service to the problem rather than embracing the recommendations that the committee has agreed.
"Suicide is a problem that touches every community in the North and we need to take seriously any recommendations that could help prevent people who died through suicide.
"What we now need to see is Minister McGimpsey act decisively to take these recommendations on board as actions speak louder than words.
"I intend to raise this issue tomorrow in the Assembly with the Minister and press on him the urgency of putting forward a strategy to tackle suicide in our communities." ENDS
