Woodward visit to Lisanelly welcomed

15 May, 2008

Omagh Sinn Fein Councillor Martin Mc Colgan welcomed today's visit by British Secretary of State Shaun Woodward to the site of the proposed secondary level Education Campus Village on at the vacated Lisanelly military site in the town.

The invitation for the visit was extended by Pat Doherty MP and Barry Mc Elduff MLA when they, along with representatives of Omagh Educational Campus Group met with Shaun Woodward in January to lobby on the issue of the transfer of the lands

Speaking about the visit, the local Councillor who is also Chairperson of the Lisanelly Lands Working Group said,

"I welcome the fact that Shuan Woodward took up this invitation to come to Omagh today to not only hear the visionary proposals for a secondary level Education Village Campus but also to visualize how these plans would completely transform a former site which was used for military purposes in the past.

"Shaun Woodward was left in no doubt about the universal backing from these proposals locally as he heard presentations from the Omagh Educational Campus Group, local councillors and Council officials.

"We were greatly encouraged by Shaun Woodward's enthusiastic support for what is being proposed and we encouraged him to do everything in his power to translate his own personnel support for the project into stepping up pressure on his own government to facilitate the transfer of the necessary lands to make the Education Village Campus a reality.
