Sinn Fein condemns arson attack in Strabane

29 May, 2008

The Sinn Féin Chairperson of Strabane District Council, Councillor Gerard Foley has branded those responsible for an arson attack on an unoccupied house at Drumman Court in the town in the early hours of the morning as being beneath contempt.

He said:

"It is no thanks to the person/or persons who carried out this despicable act that we are not facing a horrific tragedy this morning. There was a determined effort to cause an inferno at this house.

"While the house itself may have been unoccupied it would have undoubtedly spread quickly to adjoining homes which were occupied and given the timing of this arson attack in the early hours lives were put at serious risk.

"I would wish to condemn this incident in the strongest possible terms and whoever was behind this is beneath contempt." ENDS
