Sinn Féin welcome procurement measures
Sinn Féin Equality and Human Rights spokesperson Martina Anderson MLA has welcomed new public procurement guidelines announced today as an important step in delivering 'genuine equality and prosperity for all'.
"Sinn Féin lobbied vigorously for social objectives to be included in all public procurement projects and I am pleased that the new guidelines have now been put in place," the Foyle MLA said.
"When you consider that some £18 billion in public funds is to be spent on procurement projects over the next decade, the scale of the potential becomes clear.
"We want to see social objectives - such as using labour from the long-term unemployed and apprenticeship training - included in every single one of those projects.
"These guidelines will help do that and they clearly have the potential to become a key driver for genuine equality and prosperity for all.
"However, they are only one tool and Sinn Féin will continue to push for further initiatives to help address regional disparities and benefit the most economically disadvantaged sections of our communities.
"We will also be using all our influence to ensure that these guidelines are implemented in full to achieve the maximum possible benefit for all our people." ENDS
