Welcome for new Specialist Schools

5 June, 2008

Sinn Féin Newry Armagh MP Conor Murphy has welcomed the announcement that St Paul's School in Newry has been awarded Specialist School status in Science.

St Paul's was one of 9 schools gaining Specialist School status this year and bring the total number to 34.

Mr Murphy said:

"This is great news for St Paul's and demonstrates how their commitment to excellence and to working with other education partners and the wider community to enhance learning opportunities of young people has paid off.

"This leadership and working with other schools in developing local Area Learning Communities is an essential part of the new opportunities in our education system and laying the foundations for greater choices for young people at 14 and 16 under the Entitlement Framework." ENDS
