McLaughlin welcomes official opening of Gaelscoil Ghleann Darach

12 June, 2008

Sinn Féin representative Mitchel McLaughlin MLA (South Antrim) has welcomed the Official opening by Education Minister, Cáitriona Ruane today of Gaelscoil Ghleann Darach in Crumlin.

Speaking after attending the opening Mitchel McLaughlin MLA said:

"I would like to congratulate everyone at Gaelscoil Ghleann Darach who have worked so hard over the last few years to make this project a reality. Following the official opening of Gaelscoil Éanna in Glengormley yesterday this is another example of the vibrancy of the Irish medium sector in South Antrim and validation of the efforts of all concerned with the Irish language revival throughout the country.

"I would especially like to thank the Rev, Brian Kennaway for his attendance at the opening and for his inspirational comments and insight into the role of Presbyterians in the survival of the language in the 18th and 19th centuries. I share his hope that his co-religionists will once again embrace the language as part of our shared culture and heritage.

"I have no doubt that Gaelscoil Ghleann Darach will continue to flourish and inspire other areas to follow their example in promoting Irish medium education as a pathway to academic excellence." ENDS
