Statement on Land Registers: The LandWeb Project

18 June, 2008

Sinn Féin Public Accounts Committee Chair Person Paul Maskey MLA has welcomed the report on Transforming Land Registers: The Land Web Report.

Mr Maskey said

"There are a number of issues in the report that undoubtedly the PAC will wish to pursue in the future.

"The total estimated costs for the life of the project are now £78 million that is up from £46 million at contract signature in 1999. There are significant gaps in the Project Boards minutes during which important changes, with a value over £9 million, were agreed.

"One of the key drivers for the project was to deliver significant reduction in the fees charged for Land Registers (LRNI) services. However this has not yet been achieved and the LRNI's surplus income has increased to £8.6 million at 31 March 2007."

Mr Maskey added "This surplus is tantamount to a tax as LRNI customers are paying too much for the services provided." ENDS
