Adams welcomes EU decision to lift sanctions against Cuba
Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams MP MLA has welcomed the decision by the EU that it will lift sanctions it imposed on Cuba in 2003.
Mr. Adams who visited Cuba several years ago, said:
"Although the sanctions were suspended in 2005 their abolition is an important development which will be widely welcomed.
"I would urge the EU to quickly enter into a meaningful dialogue with the Cuban government to begin the work of normalising diplomatic relations and I would urge other governments to follow the lead given by the EU.
"Sanctions and refusing to talk will not resolve differences. Dialogue is the key to progress and to resolving differences." ENDS
