Adams praises work of Iontaobhas na Gaelscolaíochta
Sinn Féin West Belfast MP Gerry Adams this morning formally unveiled a new banner which now sits around the new proposed premises for Iontaobhas na Gaelscolaíochta / The Trust Fund for Irish Medium Education.
Speaking at the event Mr. Adams praised the work of Iontaobhas na Gaelscolaíochta and committed Sinn Féin to pursuing public funding for the body as it seeks to advance and extend Irish Medium Education.
Mr. Adams said:
"The role of Iontaobhas na Gaelscolaíochta / The Trust Fund for Irish Medium Education is to provide resources to assist the growth of Irish medium education throughout the north.
"This year alone it will commit £1.5m on a number of projects: providing accommodation for schools in Lisnaskea, Omagh and Castlewellan; as well as providing start up grants for new naíscoileanna in Limavady, Forkhill and Cookstown.
"Iontaobhas na Gaelscolaíochta raises funds from a variety of sources: statutory, private and philanthropic.
"The role of Iontaobhas is to spell out the benefits of Irish medium education and to provide resources for those who wish to provide Irish Medium Education.
"The acquisition of this important site, which is of key strategic importance to the development of An Ceathru Gaeltachta is proof of the ambition and enterprise of Iontaobhas.
"Their intention is to construct a flagship building that will provide office and work space for other companies and enterprises working in the realm of the Irish language and culture.
"It aims to generate a revenue stream that will be reinvested into the Irish Medium Education sector in the coming years to meet the growing demand for this type of added value education." Críoch
