Junior Ministers praise youth for efforts to end interface violence in north Belfast
Sinn Féin Junior Minister Gerry Kelly MLA met with a group of young people at Stormont today to hear first hand of their campaign to end interface violence in north Belfast.
The leaflet and poster initiative is designed to highlight the tragic reality of interface violence that often ends up in serious injury, disfigurement or in death.
Mr Kelly said:
"The summer has historically been difficult for communities in north Belfast. All too often we see the image of young people in conflict across interfaces. This project demonstrates young people acting to stop violence erupting. They are showing real leadership within communities and this should be recognised.
"Over the past weekend we have witnessed areas where dialogue can replace conflict. We need to build on models of dialogue and promote a peaceful summer.
"As Ministers we endorse and agree with what these young people say to violence at interfaces - wise up M8." ENDS
