Publication of Omagh Investigation Report

6 July, 2008 - by Maeve McLaughlin

Sinn Féin Policing Board member Martina Anderson MLA commenting on the Crompton Report into the Omagh bomb investigations initiated by the Policing Board has called for the publication of the Police Ombudsman's Report.

Ms Anderson said:

"The conduct of the police investigation into the Omagh bomb and the damning criticism of it by the judge in the Hoey trial raises serious issues of public confidence. It is vital that the Policing Board is seen to take the lead in addressing this.

"That means producing a full report examining all of the issues raised by the judge, the defence team and the Omagh families. We are not yet at that point. This Report in itself is incomplete because it is not in a position to take on board the conclusions from the Police Ombudsman and the Public Prosecution Service.

"If the families and the wider public are to be reassured then is important that we quickly move from the incomplete review carried out by Crompton for the Policing Board and get to a position were a full report can be signed off on and published." ENDS
