Hundreds attend Toome Community rally

8 July, 2008

Sinn Féin South Antrim MLA Mitchel McLaughlin has said that the large attendance at the Community rally in Toome last night (Monday 7th july) demonstrated the resolve in the area that anti-community activity will not be allowed to intimidate the residents.

Mitchel McLaughlin said:

"I am sure that those residents of Toome who have suffered assault, intimidation and fear from anti-community elements in recent months will have experienced a sense of solidarity from the large attendance at the rally last night. It was especially encouraging to see so many young people come out to demonstrate their support for their neighbours.

"Toome is a very close knit community and is determined that those individuals intent in damaging the reputation of the area by their anti-community activity including attacking homes, property and residents will not be allowed to hold the community to ransom. The people by their support for the community rally last night sent a clear message to these individuals that they will not be tolerated."
