Staff levels at Louth County Hospital must be maintained – Morgan

8 July, 2008

Speaking in the Dáil today Sinn Féin Louth TD Arthur Morgan called on the Minister for Health Mary Harney to ensure that adequate staff is provided at Louth County Hospital in Dundalk and that two senior doctors who were let go last week are replaced.

Deputy Morgan also called on Minister Harney to outline what action the Government will take to resolve the chronic crisis in the health services.

He said, "Two Senior House Officer Doctors were let go last week at Louth County Hospital, Dundalk effectively halving the level of Senior House Officers on-call cover at the Hospital. This has resulted in the ending of surgical admissions after 5.00pm, thus imposing severe hardship on patients in the Dundalk area.

"The Minister for Health and Children Mary Harney must ensure that adequate staff is provided at Louth County Hospital, Dundalk and that the two doctors that were let go are replaced as soon as possible. Minister Harney must also outline what action the Government will take to resolve the chronic crisis in the health services." ENDS
