Sellafield is a by-word for negligence and incompetence – Clarke

10 July, 2008

Sinn Féin South Down MLA Willie Clarke has expressed deep frustration at a Westminster Public Accounts Committee report, which states that the Sellafield Plant will not be completely 'clean' until 2120.

He said,

"Sellafield is an issue of concern right across Europe and Sinn Féin has met with delegations from various nations regarding the pollution and health issue associated with the Sellafield plant.

The disposing of nuclear waste must cease and work started to halt this process immediately in order to protect future generations from the health and environmental implications associated with it.

The fact is that there are a number of clusters where there is an exceptionally high incidence's of Cancer in Louth, South Down and in the Lofoten region of Norway. Clearly there is a need to intensify the campaign to end all dangerous and deadly nuclear re-processing at Sellafield.
