Belfast City should embrace all of our citizens equally – Cllr Michael Browne
Sinn Féin's Council Group leader Cllr Michael Browne has called on all of the citizens of Belfast to be treated with equality and respect. His remarks come during the week long gay pride festival taking place in the city.
Cllr Browne said,
"Belfast is a city with a growing number of diverse people and communities openly living their lives and they should of course have the freedom to do this without fear or threat. Coming on the back of the irresponsible and bigoted comments from Iris Robinson I think it is of particular importance that we show our solidarity to the LGBT community here in our city.
That is why our party President Gerry Adams has wished the LGBT community well during this week's festival, and the Sinn Féin Mayor of Belfast Tom Hartley launched the festivities on Saturday and will be attending the forthcoming Pride Parade this Saturday.
I want to take this opportunity during Pride week to send best wishes and solidarity to the organisers and those taking part in any of the Pride events, from all of the Belfast City Councillors.
