Ó Snodaigh calls for extension of fuel allowance in light of un-seasonal weather
Sinn Féin Housing Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD has called on the Government to extend the fuel allowance throughout the summer months.
Deputy Ó Snodaigh said rising fuel costs combined deteriorating summer weather conditions means people require their heating throughout the summer months at much higher costs.
Speaking today Deputy Ó Snodaigh said, "The un-seasonal rainfall over the last two summers means many people have to use their heating systems to dry clothes and even just to keep warm at times. Combined with rising fuel costs this means that many people are facing extra costs that they simply cannot afford.
"There is also the fact that many old people are in need of their heating all year round.
"With all of this in mind I would appeal to the Minister for Social and Family Affairs Mary Hanafin to look into the prospect of extending the fuel allowance to keep payments going all year round." ENDS
