Move on tobacco sales welcomed - O'Neill
Sinn Féin MLA and deputy chair of the Assembly's Health Committee Michelle O'Neill has welcomed the move to change the age at which people can purchase tobacco from 16 to 18 years of age.
Ms O'Neill said,
"Most people begin smoking at an early age and the detrimental effects to their health in later life are well known. This move is a welcome one and I hope it effectively detracts young people from purchasing tobacco products; the onus is now on business people to ensure they adhere to this new legislation and help in the battle to stop our young people succumbing to the dangers of smoking."
