WELCOME FOR INTERIM FINDINGS OF REGISTRY OF DELIBERATE SELF HARM - O'NEILL
Sinn Féin MLA and Vice-Chair of the Assembly Health Committee Michelle O'Neil has welcomed the publication of interim findings from the Registry of Deliberate Self Harm.
Ms O'Neill said,
"The registry was launched in 2007 on an all-Ireland basis and is in operation at three hospitals in the Western Health and Social Services Board area as part of all Island co-operation on the prevention of suicide.
The findings of the registry are particularly relevant and poignant on this, world suicide prevention day. Hopefully this study will give us a greater insight and a better understanding of the reasons why people engage in self harm and how best the health and social services can provide practical help and assistance for them. In practical terms this study should go some way in developing better and more suitable policies to deal with suicide and self harm.
