Ó Snodaigh calls on Irish politicians to support calls for International Arms Trade Treaty

15 September, 2008

Sinn Féin International Affairs Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD will attend an event organised by Amnesty International in Leinster House on Wednesday in support of an International Arms Trade Treaty. Deputy Ó Snodaigh has signed a declaration in support of an Arms Trade Treaty and has called on all Irish politicians to do so ahead of Wednesday's event.

Speaking today he said, "Amnesty International will hold a media event in Leinster House on Wednesday in support of an International Arms Trade Treaty. Members from all Irish political parties have signed a declaration of support for such a treaty.

"However, I would call on all those politicians who have not yet signed the declaration to show support for an Arms Trade Treaty by signing the declaration ahead of Amnesty's event this Wednesday.

"Amnesty will also use the event to launch a report on the global arms trade entitled 'Blood on the Crossroads'. This report highlights the impact of unrestrained arms trading in many conflict zones and supports the arguments for an Arms Trade Treaty." ENDS
