“Orde needs to concentrate on policing and not politics” – McKay

19 September, 2008

Speaking after comments in today's media from PSNI Chief Constable Hugh Orde, North Antrim Sinn Féin MLA and Policing Board member Daithí McKay has criticised his blatantly political intervention.

Mr McKay said,

"On numerous occasions Hugh Orde has told us he is a police officer and not a politician, it is time he reflected that assertion and reflected on his blatantly political comments and intervention.

What people across the North want is a top class, effective policing service, Hugh Orde must work to achieve that. People on the ground are suffering and want answers and action.

I would suggest to Hugh Orde that he stick by his own assertion and leave politics to the politicians."
