Clarke condemns vandalism of Ballywillwill Orange Hall

19 September, 2008

South Down Assembly Member Willie Clarke has condemned Thursday's overnight attack on Ballywillwill Orange Hall near Castlewellan where slogans were sprayed on the building.

Cllr Clarke said:

"I condemn this attack without reservation and I urge those who are involved in such activity to cease what they are doing immediately.

"Incidents of this nature serve only to heighten community tensions and can undo much of the good work that is being carried out locally to build bridges. Sinn Féin has worked throughout the summer trying to ensure a trouble free marching season and our view is that no one can justify targeting an Orange Hall in this way.

"Indeed, spraying slogans on an Orange Hall is just as wrong as the burning of tricolours or images of Sinn Féin members on bonfires. Republicans in Castlewellan will continue to work to prevent such attacks from occurring again." ENDS
