Sinn Féin to call for 20mph speed limit near schools

22 September, 2008

Sinn Féin will tomorrow (uesday 23rd) put forward a motion calling for a 20mph speed limit outside schools across the North of Ireland.

The motion reads,

"That this Assembly calls on the Minister for Regional Development to consider introducing a 20mph restricted speed limit as part of a broader package of traffic calming measures in the vicinity of schools."

Speaking today, one of those who proposed the motion, Michelle O'Neill MLA said,

"This is an issue of concern for parents and schools right across the six counties; we in Sinn Féin believe that measures such as this can proactively help to save lives. I would hope that the other parties agree with this stance and I would call on them to support the motion before the Assembly tomorrow."
