Sinn Féin call for 20mph speed limit at schools

23 September, 2008

Sinn Féin MLA's Michelle O'Neill and Francie Brolly have today forwarded a motion calling on the Minister for Regional Development, Conor Murphy MP MLA, to consider the introduction of a 20mph speed limit at schools across the North.

The motion reads,

"That this Assembly calls on the Minister for Regional Development to consider introducing a 20mph restricted speed limit as part of a broader package of traffic calming measures in the vicinity of schools."

Speaking today Michelle O'Neill said,

"This is an issue of concern for parents and schools right across the six counties; we in Sinn Féin believe that measures such as this can proactively help to save lives. I would hope that the other parties agree with this stance and I would call on them to support the motion before the Assembly today."
