Sinn Féin welocomes Fred Cobains belated support for demilitarisation position
Sinn Fein MP Pat Doherty has welcomed Fred Cobain's belated support for the position taken by Sinn Féin on the sale of land used by the British army and the proceeds being given to the British exchequer, not the Executive.
Speaking today Pat Doherty MP said:
"At Question Time for the OFMDFM Fred Cobain has raised concerns surrounding the proceeds from the sale of British army bases going to the British exchequer and not to the Executive.
"Sinn Féin have been on record stating that the sale of any of these site should result in the monies raised going to the Executive for Executive projects.
"There is a long legacy of the British government under funding countless projects within the north. This is another example of taking what they can regardless of the local economic situation.
"These sites need to be handed to the Executive for Executive projects, and if sold, any monies raised from these sites need to be delivered into the local budget for the benefit of the local economy. It should not be a land grab by the British exchequer". CRÍOCH
