Willie McCrea is simply wrong over DARD's decentralisation costing

3 October, 2008

Sinn Féin Agriculture Spokesperson Pat Doherty MP, MLA (West Tyrone) has called Willie McCrea's comments on the costing of decentralisation costing for DARD ill conceived and ill thought out.
Speaking today Mr Doherty said:
"Willie McCrea's poor swipe, over costings is ill conceived and ill thought out. If the price is £10,000 per job and 5,000 jobs are to be moved Willie is automatically assuming that the 5,000 people work solely for DARD and no other departments are affected. It's simple maths and Willie has gotten it wrong.
"Sinn Féin are committed to helping and assisting farmers whether it be through, decentralisation, flood relief, or any other matter of concern and are working hard to do so.
"There is no doubt that decentralisation is an issue of fairness in the distribution of public sector jobs and will deliver for the farming community. To have a DARD located in the heart of the community it represents instead of in Belfast can only mean greater access for both employees and those wishing to avail of DARD's services.
"The farming community are getting sick and tired of Willie McCrea trying to score cheap political points instead of listening to real concerns and working constructively to achieve workable solutions." END
