Adams welcomes Obama Support for Finucane Enquiry

7 October, 2008

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams MP MLA has welcomed the endorsement by Democratic Presidential candidate Senator Barak Obama of an Independent Inquiry into the murder of Pat Finucane.

In a response to questions placed by the Irish American Unity conference and the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Senator Obama expressed his support for a comprehensive truth process and endorsed the call for an independent inquiry into the murder of Pat Finucane.

Mr. Adams said:

"This is an important and welcome position by the US Democratic candidate.

It is crucial that state collusion continues to be highlighted.

The onus is on the British government to acknowledge its role and that of its state forces directly and indirectly in the killing of citizens, including Pat Finucane." CRÍOCH
