Doherty secures Seanad debate on Colposcopy services at Letterkenny General Hospital

15 October, 2008

Donegal Sinn Féin Senator Pearse Doherty has secured a debate in the Seanad on the retention of Colposcopy Services at Letterkenny General Hospital.

Speaking ahead of the debate Senator Doherty said, "Sinn Féin welcomed roll out of the National Cervical Screening Programme earlier this year but we were disappointed to see that Letterkenny General Hospital was not identified to receive referrals from the programme.

"Letterkenny General Hospital must have Colposcopy services into the future. Women from Donegal, in need of these services, must not be forced to travel the 240 mile return journey to Sligo Regional Hospital.

"I have secured a Seanad debate on this issue this evening and will be calling on the Minister for Health to ensure that Colposcopy services are retained at Letterkenny General Hospital." ENDS
