Sinn Féin MLA expresses alarm after double stabbing

17 October, 2008

Sinn Féin MLA John O Dowd has expressed alarm after 2 young people were stabbed in the Taghnaven estate in Lurgan in the early hours of Friday morning. Initial reports suggest one youth had to be resuscitated following the attack on him and the second youth was later stabbed in the head.

Mr O 'Dowd said:

"Going by reports from people on the ground, it would appear that there were 2 separate stabbing incidents which maybe connected. What is clear is that we could have been dealing with the deaths of two young people this morning as the result of knife attacks.

"I would appeal to anyone with information about these attacks to bring it to the PSNI immediately and further call on anyone seeking to retaliate; whatever their motivation, to stop and think of the consequences of their actions. Knives kill and it is through only shear luck that this community is not preparing to bury two young people today." ENDS
