Sinn Fein call for Independent International Truth Commission
Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Victims Issues, Mid Ulster MLA Francie Molloy has stated that Sinn Fein have called for the establishment of an independent truth recovery process. Speaking after some of the recommendations by the Consultative Group on the Past
were revealed Mr Molloy said:
"Following a process of consultation and discussion, particularly with victims and victims' groups, Sinn Féin has concluded that the best way forward on the issue of truth recovery is through the establishment of an Independent International Truth Commission
"We are still however awaiting the outcome of this report, which remains to be published. Any process must be one that can deliver the truth to bereaved families as a result of independent investigation and be victim centred.
"Being victim-centred means that it must embrace all the victims, all the protagonists, whether they live in Ireland or England or elsewhere. There must be no hierarchy of victims.
"There is of course understandable concern about the British Government's commitment to a truth recovery process as we have seen numerous occasions where the British have hampered or retarded the flow of information and evidence. All relevant parties must play a full role giving full co-operation for any truth process to be valid and successful." ENDS
