de Brún slates new EU "body-scanners" plan as "unnecessary, unjustified and invasive"
Sinn Féin MEP Bairbre de Brún has rounded on new European Commission plans to allow for "body-scanners" at airports. The technology as been described as being akin to a strip-search in its operation.
From Strasbourg where the vast majority of MEPs agreed with the resolution signed by Ms de Brún and Sinn Féin colleague Mary Lou McDonald, de Brún said:
"This measure is unnecessary, unjustified and invasive. The Commission has brought forward this plan without assessing the impact on fundamental rights or human health or even if they are cost-efficient. I am glad to have signed this strong message from all groups in the Parliament calling for a re-think to this ill-conceived plan." ENDS
