Ritchie lambasted over more empty promises
Sinn Féin Newry and Armagh MLA Cathal Boylan recently asked the Social Minister Development Margaret Ritchie if she could confirm that the scheme to be implemented at Ardcarne in Newry would be on schedule and if adequate funding was available for similar schemes in the Newry and Mourne District Council area.
In her response Margaret Ritchie said;
'There are currently two improvement schemes approved for Ardcarne Park, Newry. The kitchen replacement scheme and the environmental improvement scheme are planned for 2009. These schemes may be delayed as a result of financial pressures on the Housing Executive's capital budget.
Similarly, there are five additional improvement and maintenance schemes planned for the Newry and Mourne District Council area, but these are also subject to the Housing Executive's budget prioritisation.'
Commenting, Mr. Boylan said;
"This will obviously be a massive disappointment to the residents of Ardcarne for whom these improvements are essential. Sinn Féin will be following up on this and we will be trying to ensure that this scheme and similar ones in the area are initiated at the earliest possible opportunity and are not left on the back burner indefinitely."
Mr. Boylan's party colleague, Mickey Brady agreed and stated,
"Margaret Ritchie visited Ardcarne for a media photo shoot aware that her promises were empty. At the time the Minister said 'This is an exciting time for Ardcarne Park and I have given a commitment that I will be doing all in my power to ensure that work proceeds on schedule'.
"When was the Minister going to let the people of Ardcarne Park know that her commitment amounted to nothing?
"This has now been revealed as no more than a shallow window dressing roadshow to bolster local SDLP representatives. Margaret Ritchie has a lot to answer for. Yet again, Margaret Ritchie has been exposed as promising much yet failing to deliver." ENDS
