Maskey condemns another south Belfast attack

21 October, 2008 - by Alex Maskey

Sinn Féin south Belfast MLA Alex Maskey has condemned another attack on a woman in the Agincourt Avenue area of the Ormeau Road.

Speaking today Mr Maskey said,

"Last week I met with the PSNI on numerous occasions in relation to the upsurge in attacks on women and vulnerable people in the south of the city. I along with my party colleagues and DPP members Vincent Parker and Tierna Cunningham stressed the need for pro-active, effective and visible measures in order to reassure citizens of their safety while in south Belfast.

"I want to send my thoughts to the victim of this latest attack.

"It very much underlines the real measures we need to see implemented in south Belfast to help combat these attacks. I have raised this issue with the chair of the Policing Board today with a view to having it discussed at the Board as matter of urgency."
