"Meeting with Ulster Bank Officials useful and informative" McLaughlin

Sinn Féin Economic Spokesperson, Mitchel McLaughlin MLA (South Antrim) has described a meeting between the party and Ulster Bank officials to discuss the economic forecast as helpful and informative.

Mitchel McLaughlin said:

"A number of Sinn Féin MLA's and support staff met with Senior Ulster Bank officials at Stormont today to listen to the Bank's assessment of the economic outlook.

"The merits of a number of possible economic initiatives were discussed and we will be investigating them further in the coming period. The bank representatives outlined some of the difficulties being experienced by their clientele in the present economic climate and the solutions that they can offer.

"While it is not possible to give definitive advice that will suit every situation I would however advise people experiencing financial pressure - particularly homeowners - to talk to their bank as soon as possible so that their situation does not become unmanageable. The one thing that I would seriously caution against is anyone in financial difficulties approaching secondary lenders as this will only exacerbate their situation.

"The Sinn Féin representatives found the briefing both useful and informative and will be helpful in developing proposals to stimulate the economy and assist job creation."
