McLaughlin welcomes investment in Mallusk company

12 November, 2008

Sinn Féin Economy Spokesperson, Mitchel McLaughlin MLA (South Antrim) has welcomed the £3.3 million investment by Mallusk company, Williams Industrial Services (WIS) Ltd, to develop new products and increase export opportunities.

Mitchel McLaughlin said:

"I congratulate WIS on this investment which will not only help the company strengthen its position on the export market but will provide 24 much needed high quality jobs in Research and Development (R&D). I believe that support for indigenous companies such as WIS and particularly in the area of R&D is imperative if we are to put down a solid economic base on which we can build for long-term prosperity.

"I would recommend more of a focus being put by government on support for indigenous companies especially in R&D projects to help them grow and expand into export markets. While direct inward investment is important and we must continue to attract it, it is local entrepreneurial endeavour like this investment by WIS that will create the backbone of a successful economy. In this vein I welcome the £131,000 contribution to this project by Invest NI.

"I would particularly wish to congratulate, Robert Adamson and John Toner Joint-Managing Directors of WIS on this initiative and wish them and all at WIS continued success in the future." CRÍOCH
