Government must review allocation to Dublin Drugs Task Forces – Ó Snodaigh

14 November, 2008 - by Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD

Sinn Féin Justice Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD has said the allocation of funding to the Dublin Local Drugs Task Forces for 2009 is completely inadequate and does not reflect the growth of the drugs crisis over the past year.
Speaking today Deputy Ó Snodaigh said, "The allocation to the Dublin Local Drugs Task Forces for 2009 is pitiful and shows that while the Government talks tough about tackling drugs and associated crime the reality is quite different.
"The increases for the task forces are well below inflation and do not reflect the growth of the drugs crisis in Dublin over the past year.
"Just yesterday we had a debate in the Dáil on the killing of Shane Geoghegan in which the Government talked tough about tackling gangland crime. However, if we are to properly tackle gangland crime then we must tackle the drugs crisis, which is fuelling gangland crime, from every angle.

"The Government must review it allocation to the Dublin Local Drugs Task Forces for 2009." ENDS
