Boylan saddened by attack on monument
Newry and Armagh Sinn Féin MLA, Cathal Boylan, has added his voice to those who have condemned the unwarranted attack on the war memorial located on the Mall in Armagh City. Poppy wreaths which had been laid at the base of the monument were set on fire causing damage to the granite structure.
Commenting, the local Assembly member said;
'There is no place in our society for this kind of vandalism. This memorial, whether those who carried this attack out agree with it or not, was erected to the memory of the dead of two world wars, many of whom were from the Nationalist community. There is no room for desecration of such monuments, or the unjustified attacks on GAA clubs or Orange halls. Each of us has our own culture and we must learn to respect those cultures equally.'
