Policing Budget shortfall must not impact on delivery of community policing
Sinn Féin North Antrim MLA and Policing Board member Daithí McKay has said that the current shortfall in the police budget should not be allowed to impact on the delivery of community policing.
Speaking after meeting with British NIO Minister Paul Goggins Mr McKay said:
"It is imperative that the funding for developing and enhancing Civic and Neighbourhood policing is protected and that continued emphasis is put on building public confidence and developing relationships with all communities based on mutual respect.
"There is no doubt that the rising number of hearing loss claims being made by former police officers against the PSNI is putting an enormous strain on the policing budget. However Sinn Féin will not stand over a dilution in civic policing nor will we back cuts that will set back the change which is currently taking place within policing here in the north." ENDS

The Policing Board and NIO have agreed to look into other ways of meeting the budget shortfall before the Board meeting next week.
