de Brún to work with fellow MEPs over ‘unjustified’ farm subsidy threat
Sinn Féin MEP Bairbre de Brún speaking after a briefing with Agriculture Minister Michelle Gildernew on the £28.5 million threat to farm subsidies has pledged to work with fellow MEPs.
Jim Nicholson MEP also attended the joint briefing with the minister.
Speaking after the meeting Ms de Brún said:
"The EU is looking to disallow £28.5 million in farm subsidy payments largely because of disputes over how regulations have been interpreted.
"It is clear that Michelle Gildernew will fight tooth and nail through the conciliation process to retain as much of this as possible even though the decisions that have been queried were not made on her watch.
"It is important that the MEPs support our Agriculture Minister in this important battle because the loss of nearly £30 million from future farm subsidy payments would have a huge impact on local farmers." ENDS
