Concern at arms find in Newtownabbey - Sinn Féin
Sinn Féin MLA for South Antrim, Mitchell McLaughlin, has expressed concern with regards to the arms find in Newtownabbey today.
Speaking earlier Mr McLaughlin said:
"The finding of five pipe bombs and a large amount of ammunition in Newtownabbey is a worrying development. The obvious question that people will be asking is why these devices and ammunition were there in the first place and what was the intention of their use?
"We have already seen in the past two weeks pipe bombs being left at Boucher Road and in the New Lodge area of North Belfast. The PSNI need to come forward and tell us if there is a link to any of the recent bomb alerts.
"If anything this find reinforces the fact that continued pressure, especially from the British Government and the unionist parties, needs to be brought to bear on unionist paramilitaries to once and for get all their deadly arsenal off the streets."
