Assembly and Oireachtas should work together on EU Scrutiny – Anderson

3 December, 2008 - by Cathal Ó hOisín, Maeve McLaughlin, Barry McElduff, Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD

Sinn Féin MLAs Martina Anderson, Barry McElduff and Francie Molloy and Dublin TD Aengus Ó Snodaigh today took part in a meeting of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on European Affairs and the Assembly Committee of the Office of First Minister and Deputy First Minister.

Speaking after the meeting Martina Anderson said,

"The scrutiny of EU legislation is an important job both here in Leinster House and in the Assembly in the North. Problems with the volume of legislation coming from the EU have been highlighted in last week's report from the Oireachtas Committee that was established on foot of Ireland's rejection of the Lisbon Treaty.

"Sinn Féin is attempting to establish closer working relationships between the Assembly and the Oireachtas in order to deal with EU Legislation in a more coherent manner. This, of course, would be beneficial to the whole island." ENDS
