Boylan warns of mail / phone scam
Sinn Féin MLA for Newry and Armagh, Cathal Boylan, has been made aware of a 'mail scam' being perpetrated by fraudsters and wishes to high light it to the general public.
'Basically, people are receiving post cards through their letter box from a company called PDS, (Parcel Delivery Service), stating they were unable to deliver a parcel.
They are informed they need to contact a number, 0906 6611 911, to arrange delivery or collection.
This is a premium rate number, if you call it and start to hear a recorded message, you will already have been billed £15.00.'
The Assembly member concluded;
'This sort of fraud is prevalent throughout the year. The real concern is that at this time of the year there is a higher than normal amount of parcel deliveries as people await goods they have ordered through catalogues or over the internet for Christmas presents. Therefore people would be more likely to believe they are a due a delivery and would respond to this type of card.'
'I would urge everyone to think for a moment before responding to these cards, take a note of this number and company name, if you receive such a card do not ring the number and let the PSNI know you have received the card in the hope that they can catch up with those who are preying on innocent victims.'
