de Brún rejects Nicholson and Allister view of Brussels Office
Sinn Féin MEP Bairbre de Brún has rejected the views of the Northern Executive's Brussels Office as described by fellow MEP's Jim Nicholson and Jim Allister.
Bairbre de Brún said:
"If the Ulster Unionist and TUV MEP's, Jim Nicholson and Jim Allister have little contact with the Brussels Office I would suggest that it is through choice and has nothing to do with the facilities available to them through the office.
"I have availed of the services provided in Brussels on several occasions and have been impressed with the professionalism of the staff. Sinn Féin Ministers, particularly the Agriculture Minister, Michelle Gildernew have also paid many visits to Brussels on North of Ireland related issues.
"The criticisms being put forward by Jim Nicholson and Jim Allister would seem to be more about political point scoring than legitimate grievance." ENDS
Note to Editors
Ms de Brún did not attend today's meeting of the OFMDFM Committee as she is attending the United Nations climate change conference in Poznan, Poland as part of the EU Parliament delegation. She will meet with the Committee in January 2009.
