Ferris calls for processing workers to be compensated
The Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Agriculture Martin Ferris TD has called on the Government to ensure that workers who were laid off as part of the scare over contaminated pig meat are given compensation out of the fund made available to the processors.
Deputy Ferris said: "Given that €180m has been set aside for the compensation it is only right that the workers involved should also be reimbursed for loss of earnings. I estimate that this would account for less than 10% of the monies promised. There is surely no excuse then for failing to make up loss of earnings and this must be insisted upon before the money comes on stream." ENDS
