O Dowd urges public to assist with Craigavon Area Hospital outbreak

18 December, 2008 - by John O'Dowd

John O'Dowd MLA has called on the Public to co-operate with the staff at Craigavon Area Hospital in order to bring an end to the Clostridium difficile outbreak at the Hospital.

The Sinn Féin Assembly Member said,

"The Southern Trust has closed the infected ward and deep cleaning of the infected area is under way. The Staff at the hospital need assistance from the public to restrict the impact of this outbreak of Clostridium difficile and I would appeal to other public representatives to resist the urge to be alarmist in their responses.

Mr O'Dowd MLA continued,

"The staff at the hospital has initiated a number of measures to control the infection including a set of directions for visitors. It is essential that patients and visitors alike follow these directions and work with the staff to ensure the safety of patients. I would ask the general public to be tolerant with the restriction placed on them and co-operate in the interest of restoring normality as speedily as possible."
