People of Newry ‘deeply saddened’ at news of murder – Brady

27 December, 2008 - by Mickey Brady

Sinn Féin Newry and Armagh MLA Mickey Brady has said that 'the people of Newry are deeply saddened' by the death of Maire Rankin on Christmas Day.

Mickey said,

"This death has come as a deep shock to the people in the community, particularly given the fact that news of it came on Christmas Day. The PSNI have confirmed that they are treating this incident as murder.

"Maire and her family are well known throughout the area and the news will be shocking to people in the community.

"I want to send my thoughts and those of my party to the family at this very difficult and sad time. I would also urge people to call on their elderly neighbours, particularly at this time of year and to be vigilant and supportive of those most vulnerable in our community."
