Adams condemns criminal gangs

6 January, 2009 - by Pat Sheehan

Sinn Féin west Belfast MP Gerry Adams has condemned the series of recent attacks on families in the west of the city, including so-called 'tiger' kidnappings.

Mr. Adams said:

"The people of west Belfast have been angered and outraged by the series of brutal attacks on families.

The gangs involved are targeting innocent families and terrorising them for criminal self gain.

The people of west Belfast totally reject these thugs and I would appeal to anyone with any information to bring that forward to the PSNI.

The west Belfast MP has also called on all groups which claim to be republican to repudiate the activities of these gangs and to call for co-operation with the PSNI to bring them before the courts."

Mr. Adams said:

"There is an onus on the PSNI to apprehend the criminal gangs involved. The PSNI are receiving unprecedented co-operation from the people of west Belfast and other republican constituencies. They need to deliver on their obligations to these citizens." CRÍOCH
