Adams and McGuinness meet US Special Envoy

8 January, 2009 - by Pat Sheehan

Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams MP MLA and joint First Minister Martin McGuinness MP MLA this morning met the US Special Envoy to Ireland Paula Dobriansky.

This is Ms Dobriansky's last visit to the north as Envoy.

The meeting provided the Sinn Fein leaders with an opportunity to thank Ms Dobriansky for her work and efforts during her time as envoy.

They also raised with her the current Israeli occupation of Gaza and the humanitarian disaster that is unfolding in that region.

Mr. Adams said:

"Ms Dobriansky played an important and helpful role in the political process during her time as US Special Envoy.

From President Clinton's time the USA has made a significant contribution to the peace process.

I am confident that that engagement will continue under the new administration."
