We must maximise the protection and development of All Ireland economy to safeguard jobs. - McLaughlin
Sinn Féin MLA and Economic spokesperson Mitchell McLaughlin has expressed his disappointment at the news of latest job losses from FG Wilson and Dell.
Speaking today Mr McLaughlin said:
"The latest announcement by FG Wilson that they will be laying off 250 jobs follows the recent redundancy of 160 workers at their plants.
"On top of this we see a phenomenal 1,900 jobs to go in Dell in Limerick as the company reduces its global spending.
"This is evidence that people across the island of Ireland are being hit by the current global economic crisis and points to the need to use a joint strategy to try and safeguard investment and employment opportunities throughout Ireland.
"I believe that in order to maximise the protection and development of an all-Ireland economy means acquiring local fiscal autonomy for the north, while the Irish government must proactively and vigorously manage their economic policies to suit the specific conditions that effect people across all parts of the island."
